Bringing Our Community Closer with Annual Cultural and Social Gatherings.

The Susquehanna Malayalee Association (SMA) is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Malayalee community while fostering a spirit of unity and service in Central Pennsylvania. Throughout the year, SMA hosts a variety of events that bring together families and individuals to celebrate, serve, and engage in meaningful activities.

Easter/Vishu Celebrations (April)

SMA kicks off its annual events calendar with a grand celebration of Easter and Vishu in April. This event blends religious observances with cultural festivities, offering traditional prayers, a festive meal, and cultural performances that showcase the talents of our community members.

SMA Family Picnic (July)

The summer sun is perfect for the SMA Family Picnic in July, where members gather for a day of fun, food, and fellowship. This outdoor event features games, sports, and activities for all ages, fostering camaraderie among the families and friends in our community.

Community Service and Volunteering (Summer)

Beyond cultural celebrations, SMA is deeply committed to giving back to the community. The association actively participates in the Adopt a Highway program, organizes voluntary services at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, and engages in various other community service initiatives throughout the year.

Sports Events and Workshops for Kids (Summer)

SMA also promotes physical well-being and skill development by organizing sports events and workshops for kids. These include activities like Cricket, Pickleball, and Badminton, providing a platform for children to learn, compete, and stay active.

SMA Onam Celebrations (August/September)

Onam, the most significant festival for Malayalees, is celebrated with great enthusiasm in August or September. SMA's Onam event is a vibrant display of Kerala's cultural heritage, featuring traditional songs, dances, the iconic pookalam (floral arrangement), and a sumptuous Onam Sadhya (feast).

Sangamam (November/December)

Sangamam is SMA's cultural extravaganza held towards the end of the year in November or December. This event brings together a diverse range of performances, including music, dance, drama, and more, highlighting the rich cultural diversity and artistic talent within our community.

SMA Christmas/New Year Celebration (December)

The year concludes with the joyous SMA Christmas Celebration in December. This festive gathering includes Christmas carols, a nativity play, a visit from Santa, and a holiday feast, creating a warm and festive atmosphere for all attendees.
